With great ferocity, the Warrior can go berserk and bring down his enemies while protecting his allies from harm. The best tanking unit in the World of Warcraft, the Warrior is akin to the Rogue in one respect; while the Rogue depends on his energy pool to perform certain abilities and skills, the Warrior relies heavily on his rage to defeat those that stand against him.

The Warrior has an array of skills that can cripple enemies, wipe them out, and enhance the battle skills of his allies with his war cries. Given the ability to tank and take a beating, the Warrior can engage multiple opponents and still come out as the victor, with every strike from the enemy increasing his rage.

Depending on his gear, the Warrior can either be the ultimate tanker, a powerhouse damage dealer, or a mix of both. A versatile melee expert, the Warrior can take three stances when engaged; the Battle Stance, the Defensive Stance, and the Berserker Stance.

Overview
So long as there are wars to fight, the Warrior will always be on the ready. A pure combatant who prefers coming up close rather than striking from the distance, the Warrior excels in physical strength, melee fighting skills, and close-quarter tactics, making him a fearsome foe when fighting up close. As a versatile melee class, the Warrior can spur his party to victories with his war shouts. He can plunge headlong into the heart of a battle and still survive to tell the tale.

The Warrior is a welcome member for any party and is a considerable threat to enemies. Present in every race, the Warrior class is more common among the Dwarves, Orcs, Undead, and Humans. For the latter, becoming a Knight is the highest achievement a warrior can receive, as he becomes an elite warrior in his society.

The Warrior’s main attribute is strength. Every strength point gained increases the Warrior’s attack power. In addition, strength also increases the amount of damaged block by his shield. In the endgame, it is common to see a Warrior equipped with equipment that grants him additional attack power.

Notable Warriors in the World of Warcraft
Varian Wrynn – son of the late King Llane and the rightful heir to the throne of Stormwind. Varian escaped the sacking of Stormwind during the First War and was raised like a son by King Terenas of Lordaeron. During his stay in Lordaeron, he befriended Arthas, who would eventually become the Lich King.

Anduin Lothar – the champion of Stormwind and the Steward of Prince Varian. Lothar was the supreme commander of the Alliance during the Second War. He died shortly before Stormwind was retaken.

The Races
The Warrior class is available to all races. However, every race grants their Warrior a set of unique skills and expertise. Here are some of the benefits that come with the race.

• Human Warriors have a higher level of expertise with swords and maces, two most popular weapons for the Warrior class.
• Dwarves are less vulnerable to poison and bleed damage. Their armor level can be increased by 10%, which is very useful in PvP situations.
• Gnome Warriors can use the Escape Artist skill when they feel overwhelmed. Gnomes also have high resistance against arcane magic.
• While strength is the main quality of the Warrior class, the Night Elf warrior adds quickness to the mix.
• Taurens can use their Warstomp ability, which is great for crowd control.
• Draenei Warriors are effective even when going solo with the Gift of the Naaru. Their high resistance to shadow attacks is also valuable.
• Orc Warriors have Axe Specialization, making them more deadly when using one- or two-handed axes. Their Hardiness is also vital, as it reduces stun duration.
• Troll Warriors get the benefit of Berserking. When activated, the Troll Warrior’s attacks have increased damage output.
• The Undead Warriors enjoy the advantage of the Will of The Forsaken, as they are made immune to any Charm, Fear, or Sleep effects.

The Stances

The warrior has three varying stances designed for different situations — which stance to use depends on the Warrior’s talents.

Battle Stance is the standard stance of the Warrior, which is a well rounded array of offensive and defensive skills
(-20% Threat Generated).

Defensive Stance increases the rate and efficiency of the Warrior’s defensive abilities. This is mainly used when tanking (-10% Damage Received, -10% Damage Inflicted, +45% Threat Generated).

Berserker Stance means the Warrior has all offensive skills on the overdrive Best used when someone else is tanking (+3% Crit, +10% Damage Received, -20% threat Generated).

Some Warrior abilities are not available when using a specific stance. Carefully picking a stance before engaging is crucial.

The Talent Trees
There are three trees to consider when defining a Warrior’s role in the game.

• Arms Tree

Increases the Warrior’s bleeding skills and attacks with arms, as well as enhances rage gain and skills. This tree basically turns the Warrior into a hack-and-slash juggernaut. Several key talents in this tree include:

• Overpower – enables the Warrior to overpower an enemy that has dodged the Warrior’s strike. An instant counterattack, overpower is best paired with a two-handed weapon with high damage.

Bloodthirst – allows the Warrior to slightly heal himself after dealing a powerful blow.
Flurry – increases the Warrior’s attack speed for the next three swings after he lands a critical strike.
Slam – a weapon-dependent ability that inflicts damage plus X; consumes 15 rage and generates no extra threat.

• Protection Tree

This particular tree gives the Warrior’s stunning, crippling, and harassing abilities a boost. While Protection-centered Warriors do not have high damage output compared to Warriors specializing in Fury and Arms, Protection Warriors can still crush those foolish enough to go near them. Here are some of this tree’s skills:

Thunder Clap – a point blank Area of Effect ability that inflicts physical damage and slows enemies’ attacks.

Damage Shield – a protection warrior talent that causes normal and blocked melee hits taken to reflect damage equal to 10/20% of the warrior’s block value.

The Warlocks came about when the Arcanists and Shamans abandoned their studies and connection with arcane magic and forces of nature and learned the arts of the darker, Shadow-based magic. The Warlock utilizes curses and plagues to their maximum potential, using distance as an ally. In addition, the Warlock can summon demons at will and resurrect fallen allies to aid him in destroying those who stand in his way.

Background
Gul’dan was the first Warlock to submit himself to the command of the Burning Legion, after betraying Ner’zhul, his former master. This infamous follower of the dark arts led the Old Horde through the Dark Portal and the Dimensional Plain.

What with the treachery-filled history of how they came to be, Warlocks are not to be trusted, despite the grudging tolerance shown to them by most races. Even with this distrust however, many see the potential of the Warlock’s abilities. As an offensive spellcaster, the Warlock is among the strongest. While physically weak, especially against efficient melee fighters, the Warlock makes up for this with their wide range of potent and destructive spells and their demonic allies. With mastery over the magic of fire and shadow, the Warlock is an opponent not to be trifled with.

Overview
Aside from dealing tons of damaging spells, the Warlock can also provide support for his party. The Warlock’s support skills include healing and even summoning allies from other dimensions through demonic portals. With the Warlock’s long list of curses, it is said the class is the best debuffer class in the game.

The Warlock can also sacrifice his health and convert it into mana, making the Warlock capable of dishing out magic attacks even with no mana left in his pool. Coupled with his healing abilities, there is little doubt as to the Warlock’s aggressiveness. When used in conjunction with minions and debuffs, the Warlock has the most powerful assortment of Damage over Time spells.

Like the Mage, the Warlock is effective as a crowd control unit, which can be useful against a more effective opposition and in preventing a wipeout. The Warlock’s Burst Damage, when properly developed, can equal that of a Mage’s.

Like the Paladin, the Death Knight, and the Druid, the Warlock can also ride a magical mount. The only difference is that the Warlock can readily summon his, in addition to the traditional means of acquiring a mount.

The Warlock is the only class that uses Soul Shards when attempting to cast certain spells. Soul Shards can be obtained by using the Drain Soul spell on a target from which the caster gets Experience or Honor by killing. If the target dies while under the effect of Drain Soul, the player is given a Soul Shard.

In PvP situations, the Warlock is a powerhouse because of his crowd control skills and naturally high stamina. But even with the benefits of this class, a player must also be adept and keep tabs on a few things to be an expert Warlock handler. Being a Warlock means getting engaged in a fight while keeping an eye on summoned minions. Also, managing soul shards can be tricky.

The Warlock’s main attribute is stamina. This is because the Warlock can convert life into mana should the situation call for it. Thus, a Warlock should prioritize stamina as more of this attribute means more mana reserves.

While the Warlock can engage in melee combat, the damage output is less compared to what its magic attacks and spells can inflict.

The Races

The Warlock is restricted to the following races:

Weapons and Armor

The Warlock is restricted to wearing cloth armor and initially starts with daggers and fists. They can use Wands for ranged attacks and equip the off-hands with enhancement items. The Warlock can only use one-handed swords and staves after he completes his training with a weapon master.

The Skill Trees

There are three skill trees for the Warlock, each with its own set of abilities that will later define a Warlock’s role later in the game:

Affliction Tree

This tree focuses on increasing the effectiveness and damage of a Warlock’s DoT spells, Drains, and Curses while reducing mana cost. The Affliction Tree also allows the Warlock to go mobile and heal himself.

Key skills in this tree include:

• Shadow Mastery – greatly enhances the damage of the Warlock’s offensive spells and drains.

• Siphon Life – a Shadow-based Damage over Time spell that heals for the damage done.

• Fel Concentration – grants the Warlock the ability to drain life from its enemies while being attacked. For great results, use Fel Concentration in conjunction with Soul Siphon and Improved Life Tap.

Demonology Tree
This tree leans towards improving the effectiveness of the Warlock’s minions, conjure spells, and bestowing other passive bonuses. Many prefer this tree at early levels because of the tree’s inclination for versatility and survivability.

Some of the important skills in this tree are:

• Demonic Empowerment – depending on the kind of the demon summoned, this skill grants the minion with a special buff and effects.

• Soul Link – this skill enables the Warlock to take the extra damage, as significant amounts of damage taken by the Warlock are redirected to the minion.

• Demonic Sacrifice – increases the stamina of the Warlock, but Spirit also decreases. Since Stamina is an important attribute for the Warlock, this exchange is not as crippling as one may think it is.

Destruction Tree
This tree, as the name obviously suggests, enhances the Warlock’s direct damage and burst damage output, as well as increases the chances to make critical strikes. Simply put, a Destruction-cored Warlock is a killing machine.

Some of the key talents in this tree consist of:

• Shadowburn – a Shadow-based instant cast direct damage spell.

• Shadow and Flame – a passive caster buff that enhances the bonus spell damage of the Warlock when using Shadow Bolt and Incinerate spells.

• Shadowfury – Shadow-based direct damage Ground Targeted Area of Effect (GTAoE) that stuns targets for a short duration. Useful against groups and enables the Warlock to unleash combinations or flee.

Limitations
The Warlock is limited to wearing cloth armor. Even with high stamina, a more durable armor type would be useful for the Warlock. The need for a higher type of armor is even more pronounced by the fact that the Warlock has limited melee capabilities.

One of the few hybrid classes in the World of Warcraft universe, the Shaman combines the qualities of the Priest, Warrior, and Mage. The mix alone makes the Shaman a very versatile class in the game as this class can provide enhancements for the party without being too specific on any aspect of the game. Depending on how the Shaman’s skills are built, the said unit can be developed into an offensive spell caster, efficient melee combatant, or an excellent healer.

The Shaman’s primary support buffs radiates from their stationary totems, which can either increase the performances and skills of the other party members or reduce the enemies’ effectiveness and efficiency. The effects of a totem can only be felt when the units are within its effective range, which is between 30-50 yards.

While the Shaman’s role in his or her society may be seen as a visionary who can foretell the future, a medium for the beings unseen by the normal eye, or as a healer; the Shaman is nevertheless a formidable foe. When angered, the Shaman can use his sorcery to do damage or his battle skills if he needs to. As someone who has a strong connection to the elements, having a Shaman for an enemy puts any hero in a grim situation.

Background
The art of Shamanism has long been practiced ever since sentient beings have treaded the earth and founded a relationship with the elements of earth, wind, fire, and water. In the broken plains of the Outland (formerly Draenor), the most prominent Shamans are Orcs. In fact, the most vilified Orcs who served under the command of the Burning Legion were once powerful Shamans.

In the Orcs’ political circle, the Shamans held a high stature and they can easily sway the council with regards to important matters. But when the Orcs — deceived by Kil’jaeden, the leader of the Burning Legion — attacked the Draenei hunting parties, the spirits were angered by their actions and were stripped off their shamanistic powers.

Worse, the Orcs turned to the Burning Legion as their new source of power. These Orcs who gained the power of the Burning Legion were turned to Warlocks. There were some who tried to hold on to their Shamanistic roots but this effort was futile.

It was when Thrall was installed as the Warchief of the Frostwolf Clan and ascended to power that Shamanism thrived once more with the New Horde.

Trolls and Taurens are the most prolific Shaman races in the lands of Azeroth. Unlike their Orcish counterparts, the flow of Shamanism among the Trolls and the Taurens were undisturbed and continues to flourish up to this day.

The Races

Originally, the Shaman is strictly limited to the Horde as the opposite of the Paladin, which was also exclusive to the Alliance.

Each race has a set of unique attributes for the Shaman, which may offer different advantages for the player. For instance, Tauren Shamans have the Warstomp ability (stun), which is quite useful when battling a large party since Shamans do not naturally posses stunning skills. Troll Shamans have the Da Voodoo Shuffle and Berserking powers, and the Beast Slaying bonus, which is good for leveling purposes. Orc Shamans’ Blood Fury enhances the Orcs’ melee attacks and spell damage. As for the Draenei Shamans, their Gift of the Naaru allows them to heal themselves or others without using mana.

The Weapons and Armor
The Shaman starting weapons consists of maces (one-handed), staves (two-handed) and shields. Weapons like daggers, fist weapons, maces and axes (both two-handed) can be wielded only when the Shaman has completed the training for the specific weapon.

The Dual Wield ability can also be gained through training.

The Shaman starts with leather armor but can be equipped with mail armor once they reach Level 40.

The Talent Trees
With different trees of abilities, the Shaman can play different roles with relative ease. Each tree has a unique set of skills that gives focus to Shaman’s preferred area of specialization.

Elemental Tree
This tree focuses on the Shaman’s offensive casting powers, basically making the Shaman a wielder of damaging spells. This tree reduces mana costs and casting time while increasing spell damage and the rates for critical strikes. A maximized Elemental Shaman is a great unit in PvP situations.

Several skills in the Elemental Tree are:

• Elemental Mastery – a self buff that refreshes every three minutes and guarantees a no-mana critical hit on the shaman’s next offensive spell.
• Totem of Wrath – grants the whole party with increased rates in critical strike and hit chances both with spells by 3%.

Enhancement Tree

This tree increases the Shaman’s melee damage output. What makes the Enhancement Tree appealing to leveling players is that melee attacks do not require mana. An enhancement-centered Shaman’s damage output is second to Rogues and DPS Warriors. However, Enhancement Shamans may not be as useful in PVP situations as they are vulnerable to snares.

Some of the abilities mastered under this tree include:

• Windfury Weapon – grants the Shaman a 20% chance to inflict additional damage equal to two extra attacks with XX extra attack power.
• Feral Spirit – allows the Shaman to call two Spirit Wolves under his command, aiding him when he goes solo and helping him wiping out enemy groups.

Restoration Tree
This tree, as the name implies, focuses on the Shaman’s healing abilities and mana regeneration. With a fully-maxed out restoration tree, the Shaman virtually transforms into a healer, a highly-coveted member for any party. But with lower damage output, the Restoration Shaman may have difficulty going solo.

Several skills in this tree are:

• Earth Shield – a nature-based buff that heals the target almost instantly when attacked.
• Mana Tide Totem – a totem that rejuvenates 24% of the maximum mana of the companions of the Shaman. It has an effective radius of 30 yards. When utilized in a group of spellcasters it is one of the most potent mana-replenishing abilities in the game.

Limitations of the Shaman
The Shaman class is not capable of wielding swords (both one-handed and two-handed) and polearms, as well as all ranged weapons. The restriction on all ranged weapons renders the Troll Shaman’s Throwing Weapon Specialization and Bow Specialization racial traits useless.
