A cross between the Warrior and the Priest, the Paladin smites enemies of the Holy Light with mighty and resilient fervor. The Paladin provides buffs, auras, and blessings that bolster it and its party’s defensive as well as attacking skills. With its defensive and destructive attributes and with the ability to absorb so much beating, the Paladin can fill the role of a Tanker (Protection), DPS (Retribution), and Healer (Holy) effectively.

The Mage is an expert spell caster with an inclination towards burst damage and Area of Effect (AoE) skills. Although the Mage has a variety of spells in its list especially on damage dealing, the Polymorph skill is the Mage’s important ability at low levels as the Mage unit relies heavily on crowd control. This specific skill transforms enemies into harmless critters for a period of time, depending on the level of the skill. Polymorph is more useful when a Mage is a member of a low-level party.

A very effective class that utilizes distance to its fullest potential, the Hunter dispatches great amounts of damage from afar and avoids melee engagements as much as possible. Being a range unit, the Hunter excels at pulling, threat distraction and redirection, and crowd control. The Hunter also employs combat pets that can deal damage DPS and provide support for aggro situations. Among the Hunter’s unique abilities is taming wild beasts to become the character’s allies. Aside from combat, pets can be trained to track and scout. Although the Hunter is an excellent company, his circle of friends only consists of his weapons and his pets.

Known as one of the most versatile classes in the World of Warcraft, the Druid’s multi-dimensional abilities allows it to become one of the most effective hybrid units in the game. The Druid’s shape shifting skills enables it to adapt into any situation it faces. Also, the shape changing talents of the Druid help the unit effectively slide seamlessly in all four roles in the game – Tanker, Healer, or Damage Dealer (either melee or ranged). However, the Druid can only perform one role at any given moment.

The initial idea for the death knight was that of an undead lich spellcaster character mounted on a horse, much like the same character that first appeared in Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. This concept by Blizzard contrasted starkly than the other death knights that appeared in other fantasy-based games.
However, the design and the looks of the death knight hero were revamped when Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos was released. Way different than its predecessor, this second rendition of the death knight character was rigged with qualities that reflect that of a traditional death knight. A lot of differences mark the gap between the two different generations of death knights.
